A Persian Wedding, Pontea and David, Grand Coral Beach Club

ponteadavid_grandcoralbeachclub

If you listen closely while out in Playa del Carmen, you’ll quickly realize how multicultural our beautiful city is. You’ll hear Spanish, English, Italian, Portuguese, French and many other languages being spoken in the shops and restaurants, and this is one of the many reasons we believe Playa is a perfect location for a beautiful destination wedding.

Pontea and David came to us, and to Playa, with their Persian influence. They brought offerings and decor with them to help us create a traditional Persian wedding on the gorgeous secluded beach of the Grand Coral Beach Club.

We incorporated a mirror (“the mirror of fate”) and two Candelabras (representing the bride and groom and brightness in their future), one on each side of the mirror at the ceremony site. Traditional offerings of foods and spices were laid out and guests got to witness this happy couple exchange vows with the help of their families.

The ceremony was followed by dinner and dancing at the always beautiful and modern Grand Coral poolside reception area, decorated with white flowers, crystal vases and glowing candles. A DJ and band kept guests dancing and toasting the night away!

Cenote Weddings in the Riviera Maya

cenotenightwedding

There are many natural, historical and cultural wonders in the Riviera Maya, but perhaps none as unique as our famous cenotes. These fresh water sink holes are created by the underground river system, and were considered to be sacred by the Mayan people.

Some of the most beautiful cenotes are right in our own backyard and would provide a stunning back drop for your big day!

centoetulumwedding

One of our most unique weddings was that of Lindsay and Ryan, who were set on a destination wedding in Tulum but wanted something completely different than a beach wedding. Cenote Zazil- Ha provided them with a lush tropical background, crystal clear jade water and a magical experience for their guests!

Decorated with colorful papel picado baners and tropical floral arrangements, the already amazing natural wonder became even more vibrant and alive as this amazing couple said their “I Do’s” in front of their closest friends and family.

Eloping in Playa del Carmen

mayan elope2

Once and a while we get the honor of being a part of a very intimate, very private and very emotional moment, when two people decide that they wish to elope in Playa del Carmen and forgo the big traditional wedding.

As romantic as the idea is to secretly run off and get married in Mexico, there is still much to be decided; flowers, hair and makeup, photography, location, ceremony…

mayan elopePauline and Johan from Sweden came to us wishing to find a private beach area to bring their very small group of friends and family to for a surprise elopement. We organized a Mayan Ceremony on a beautiful beach in Playa del Carmen, followed by a small cocktail hour and they had a friend handle photography. It was a beautiful surprise!

Taking the surprise elopement idea even further, were David and Nicole from Kentucky, who were married on the beach in Playa del Carmen in their bathing suits and posted the photos on Facebook as a surprise announcement to their friends and family!

And finally, Olivier and Monica, a couple from Norway who brought their two beautiful children to the Riviera Maya so they could participate in their legal ceremony under the beautiful palms of Playa.

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes. Whether you wish to elope or your dream is a large celebration, there are vendors, locations and plenty of options for you in the Riviera Maya!

Jen and Adam, Private Villa, Casa Chaac in Playacar

*For our bride, Jen’s full trip report, a great step by step tool for anyone who has any questions about planning a non resort wedding in Playa del Carmen, check out her post here: http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carmen-forum/59230-our-wedding-playacar-11-days-playa-del-carmen-nov-2010-a.html

Jen and Adam had vacationed in Playa del Carmen prior to their engagement so they already had a clear idea of what they were looking for when they began planning their destination wedding in the Riviera Maya.

They wanted something unique, personal, totally customizable, casual and most of all fun!

When we showed them around a couple of private villas in Playacar and explained they would be a blank canvas to decorate and that they would be totally private and intimate, Jen and Adam immediately felt it would be the best option for their dream wedding.

The couple wanted to show their friends and family everything they loved about the area, so during their week long stay, we organized a day trip to Akumal, where they snorkeled with sea turtles in beautiful Half Moon Bay, and a welcome dinner at one of Playa’s many romantic bistro’s.

On the day of the wedding, we worked with By Design Events for catering and Maxirent and Floreria Jardin helped transform the usually bare yard into a beautiful wedding reception area, using flowers, candles, lanterns and many DIY projects Jen and Adam had brought along.

Fun and unique touches like street food carts and a churro wagon were a hit with the guests, who had a great time at the tequila tasting station and on the dance floor, before hitting the pool at the end of the night!

Actress Amy Davidson and husband Kacy, Destination Wedding at Grand Coral Beach Club, Playa del Carmen

amydavidson

As word continues to spread about how amazing the Riviera Maya is, with its stunning beaches, abundant hotels and resorts for every budget and taste and all of its natural beauty, it is no surprise we are seeing more and more weddings taking place here and every now and then we even get a celebrity appearance!

Beautiful actress, Amy Davidson, known best for her role on TV’s “8 Simple Rules” and her fiancé Kacy came to us for their May 2010 destination wedding.

Amy, always stunning with her flowing red hair and beautiful smile, wanted a simple and elegant ceremony and fun filled reception with beachy accents and bright pops of color.

We drew inspiration from the bright colors in peacock feathers and incorporated them into the bouquets which complimented the brides hair and eyes perfectly.

The ceremony took place under the romantic gazebo of the Gran Porto Real, in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Adding to the dramatic backdrop of this beautiful resort, were high winds as a Norte passed through our area! Not a problem for this spontaneous couple and their guests, they knew it would make for great photos!

Playa del Carmen based photographer Zazil Graph was on site to capture the memories of this fun filled day and Ken Brownlee got it all on film.

Bridget and Viraj, Hindu Wedding at Hacienda Corazon in Puerto Aventuras

Hindu Wedding Playa del Carmen

One of the greatest things about planning destination weddings is having clients come to us from all over the world. It’s always an amazing learning experience when we get to incorporate special traditions into our weddings.

When Bridget contacted us with her vision of a traditional Hindu ceremony followed by a Jewish and Christian Ceremony the next day, we knew it was going to be very special!

Priest Prakash lead a beautiful morning Hindu ceremony at Hacienda Corazon, followed by a brunch by Design Events and Chef Luis Carlón.

The color red, very symbolic in the Hindu faith, was used in subtle ways throughout the decor that was traditional yet modern.

The next day, guests were treated to another beautiful ceremony. This time a more traditional North American wedding ceremony, performed by their close friends.

What a treat for the couple and guests to have two wonderfully unique celebrations!

Thank you to Naal Photography for the beautiful images.

Felicidades Bridget and Viraj!
